  SEPT 12 MISSOURI VALLEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: DL Kevin Ellis, Missouri State - Ellis racked up a team-high 7 tackles in the Bears' home win over No. 14-ranked UT Martin this week, including two impactful third down stops. His first third-down tackle led to a Skyhawks punt and the second led to a third-quarter defensive stand that against kept UTM out of the end zone. His first sack came on a key third-and-11 play in the third quarter that ultimately preserved MSU's shutout into the fourth quarter. His second sack came in the fourth quarter with a 12-yard hit on second down on another drive that also helped halt a UCA drive.   SEPT 12 MISSOURI VALLEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: QB Jason Shelley, Missouri State, 5-11, 200, Sr., Frisco, Texas, Lone Star High/Utah State,...Shelley had as many touchdown passes as incompletions in Missouri State's win over No. 14 UT Martin this week. The senior QB was 19-for-24 for 297 yards and a career-high 5 touchdowns, which tied a Bears single-game record. Shelley's 14th straight 200-yard passing game included two clutch fourth-quarter TD passes to Ty Scott, the first of which put the Bears up for good and capped a 63-yard scoring drive. On fourth-and-one at the UTM 7-yard line, Shelley and the Bears went for the go-ahead score, and it paid off with a fade to Scott in the left corner to make it 28-24. Just over five minutes later, he hit Scott again, this time on a 22-yard crossing route, to put things out of reach, 35-24, with 4:37 to go. - Missouri Valley Football

  SEPT 12 MISSOURI VALLEY NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: RB Jacardia Wright, Missouri State, 6-0, 220, So., Decatur, Ill., St. Teresa High/Kansas State,...The transfer running back from Kansas State logged his first career 100-yard rushing game in MSU's win over No. 14 UT Martin this week, carrying 23 times for 120 yards (5.2 yards per carry) in a breakout effort. He also scored on a 19-yard pass from Jason Shelley with 35 seconds left in the first half to put the Bears up 21-14 at the half. Including his 4 pass receptions for 42 yards, Wright had 162 all-purpose yards for the game and became the first MSU player since last November (Kevon Latulas on 11/20/21) to rack up 100 rushing yards in the game. His game-high 47-yard rush is the longest run from scrimmage by an MSU player since a 67-yard run by Latulas at SIU (11/6/21). The return came on the heels of a UCA's first scoring drive of the game and Braswell's big play made it 27-7 at the time and seemed to put the game out of reach. It was Braswell's third career kick return TD and the seventh-longest kickoff return in Missouri State history.   Jason Shelley accounted for two touchdowns to lead Missouri State to a 27-14 victory over Central Arkansas on Thursday night. Coach Bobby Petrino entered 12-4 in career season openers, collected his first in three tries with Missouri State, ranked eighth in the FCS coaches poll. Shelley, last season's Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Year who set programs single-season records for yards passing (3,347) and total offense (3,789) in his debut, was 18-of-30 passing for 266 yards with a touchdown against Central Arkansas. He added another 51 yards rushing on 13 carries and a score.

Shelley had a 5-yard touchdown run with 1:05 remaining before halftime. Tahj Chambers intercepted a Will McElvain pass on the ensuing possession, setting up Shelley's 10-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Wood as the first half ended with Missouri State up 17-0. McElvain had a 12-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter that pulled Central Arkansas to 20-7, but Montrae Braswell returned the ensuing kickoff 98 yards into the end zone. McElvain added a 7-yard touchdown pass to Myles Butler that capped the scoring with 9:35 remaining. - AP College Football
